DO WE EMPATHIZE?

16/04/2020

According to Wikipedia Greek empathy ἐμπαθής ("excited") is the cognitive ability to perceive, in a common context, what another individual may feel. It is also described as a feeling of affective participation of one person in reality that affects another.

Do we really all use / work it correctly?

There are cases that use it by excess and others by default. Both can lead to frustration and disappointment on many occasions.

Knowing, feeling and even being able to express opinions like someone else is not an easy task, but it is a great virtue if it is used in its due measure. It helps to be able to help others to make decisions, take actions or just understand their attitude to any issue or detail. Lack of it can lead to possible rejection or ignorance.

Today we are being asked by the world of marketing and advertising to be empathetic and this can lead us to achieve our goals with a purely commercial background. Knowing ourselves and knowing to what degree we can be empathetic with others can make life easier for us. for this reason we emphasize self-knowledge and introspection to help us work on this competence. This period that we are living is a good time to work on it.

Society educates us to be empathetic but does not remedy excess cases. It is important to know at every moment and moment to “use” the empathy that is just and necessary in order to optimize one's own resources and those of others. In this way we can achieve a good harmony and improve our social relationships.
